They say the hardest part of writing is the beginning. While I don’t necessarily agree, I am pretty much sure that most intermediate writers need plenty of help when it comes to writing introductions.

Almost all form of writing needs an introduction to formally start their topic. There is no need to ask yourself why you have to write an introduction instead of going directly to the main point? It is so pretty obvious that every reader will read the introduction first before they proceed on reading the whole content. This makes them decide whether or not the topic attracts their attention.

Also, if you are going to read someone’s work, you will surely do the same thing as what your readers will do at your work. So start writing a good introduction. It needs to be strong and catchy. As you can see, almost all readers would only read the first two or three sentences in your introduction.

If they find it boring, they will skip it or they won’t read your writings at all. If they find it good and interesting, then you have done a very nice job. All writers know that the introduction is the most crucial part in writing.

This where you need to introduce your reasons why your audience needs to read your content further and what’s the importance of your writing. An overview about the topic is also included in this part. Therefore, you need to make it more interesting so that your readers will surely read your content further.

The introduction will typically span the first paragraph (or more) of any written piece of work. Done well, they should do the following things:

•inform the reader about what the text will be about

•capture your readers’ attention to make them want to read more

•offer a background on the subject of the writing

•introduce your thesis

More so than other parts of your writing, you will need to ensure your introduction is well written, with proper grammar and sentence structure. It is, essentially, your invitation to the reader – mess it up and they will be less likely to proceed any further. As such, make sure you to employ the best writing software you can scrounge up to fashion your introduction into shape.

An introduction need not be the first thing you write. In fact, some people choose to dive right into the body of their text, before even thinking about how to introduce. Whichever works best for you should suffice.

You can write your introduction in any of a million different ways. As long as it achieves the four objectives we set forth above, it should be an acceptable structure. If you’re having a hard time coming up with one, however, you can follow this age old way of crafting an introduction:

•start by writing a general statement about the subject

•follow it up with brief, but more detailed background information

•end it with your thesis statement
