Santiago de Cuba
Located in the south of the island, between the Sierra Maestre Mountains and the Caribbean Sea, Cuba s second city is steeped in history. It is known as The Cradle of the Revolution , with Fidel Castro and Che Guevara s revolution beginning with an attack on the city s garrison. Santiago de Cuba was also the first place where Fidel Castro announced the success of the revolution.
It is also the centre of the music scene in Cuba and music lovers on a Cuba holiday will be in heaven here. From Son to Salsa, the city is a great place to sample live music, see traditional dancing, or even learn how to dance! The Carnival of Santiago de Cuba is the biggest and most spectacular on the island and if you visit during the last two weeks of July, you ll be treated to an unforgettable experience.
